ABOUT
THE BOOK
REMEMBER
TO LAUGH:
Writing My Way Around the World
If
you have grown up in the current era where it’s an
everyday occurrence to see women report the news and to
read their columns and articles in national newspapers,
it may be difficult to realize that things weren’t
always that way.
When
Maggie Kilgore started out in journalism, there were few
role models to emulate. She was forced to find her own way
through the maze of a male-dominated profession that wasn’t
always accommodating to an eager young female reporter.
Pioneers like Maggie helped to pave the way for a social
change and to create today’s more gender-balanced
news reporting landscape.
While
her tenacity and determination played an important role
in her success, Maggie was also fortunate enough to find
a mentor in trail-blazing journalist Helen Thomas. By combining
Helen’s advice with her own passion for adventure,
Maggie set out on a mission to travel the world—even
during the turbulent times of the Vietnam War—to report
on what she saw and experienced.
This
book chronicles her amazing journey through the world of
journalism and around the globe, and shows how events that
occurred in the ‘60s and ‘70s have an eerie
parallel with today’s politics and world events. Her
intriguing stories and harrowing experiences manage to entertain
while also demonstrating the importance of her work. With
her positive outlook and unwavering sense of humor, Maggie’s
stories help shine a light on those historic events like
never before.
